You can choose to paint your background or keep shtum on where you've been. You can care less where you end up and invent where you begin. You can even tell your Gospel and be free from fear of spin but, first, you've got to get mad. Portraits of invaders will no longer guide your hand. Your needs no longer governed by a brightly coloured brand. A message worth repeating won't speak only to the gland but, first, you've got to get mad. Glamour won't won't disguise the horrors waiting underneath. Their secret won't be kept despite the armour of it's sheath. The foul will soon break ranks when the bonny bare their teeth but, first, you've got to get mad. The law will take it's lawful place behind the picket line. It's baton facing outward and allegiance reassigned, it'll tear off the insignia of the matriarch maligned but, first, you've got to get mad. You can tread where track won't take you, nevermore will land be locked. You can occupy what's yours with no-one pointing at the clock. You can make a neighbour welcome without pleading at the dock but, first, you've got to get mad. There'll be broadcasts of the handshakes from a camera ridden street. There'll be news and information that'll knock you on your feet. A simple 'yes' or 'no' will render hot air obsolete but, first, you've got to get mad. There'll be space to unfold memories and time to plot their course. There'll be heat to thaw the frozen joints and hands to share the wars. There'll at last be recognition of that final, lonely cause but, first, you've got to get mad.

Catch yourself a penny's worth and from the wave-bound ship alight. Maintain the habit right from birth and keep your field of vision slight. Take your mind away from every inclination thought instils. Focus on the vial and it shall answer prayers of latent will. It lays you down, a child sedate inside a crib with hidden bars. It draws your gaze up to the ceiling pointing out fictitious stars. And in time you'll come to see those hollow points of light. You'll never question if you're free, or ever doubt your sight. Shrink and wither youth's unrest. Fight expires before it's time, but don't you mourn the childhood tests; a tranquil hand commits no crime.

We won't have to lift a finger, there's a bed that's ready made. There's no old elite to overthrow, no debt that can't be paid. The streets are paved with stone that makes the hill seem not so steep. We'll forget what petty grievances keep citizens from sleep. Here, your voice is ignored, your cross is erased, your intent, no matter how pristine, will quickly be debased. This is no job for the likes of us, no shift can we effect. There are far too many of them too few of us reject. Close accounts, burn the deeds, pack what counts and leave the keys. An easy life will find the ones who dare. The pieces of the jigsaw will align when we get there. No taxes will be paid for any promises unmet. We'll grow lazy, assured that those opposed will pose no threat. The cop will never falter, the crop will never fail. We can sink the ship that takes us having no more need to sail. Here, your voice is ignored, your cross is erased, your defence despite being undisputed deftly gets disgraced. This is no job for the likes of us, no shift can we effect. There are far too many of them too few of us reject. Raid the jar, end affairs, fire the car and sell the shares. An easy life will find the ones who dare. The weather will be never less than fine when we get there. Settle tabs, resign in type, take the jabs and swallow hype. An easy life will find the ones who dare. There'll be little need to ever flex your spine when we get there.

about

Del Scott Miller releases his first solo album - a compilation of his first three solo EPs. Recorded under the moniker Del Scott Miller & the Last Million Men, the line-up features his regular musical accomplices Steve Booth and Tommy Fuller and contributions from Katie Laycock and April Lodge.
Del's previous credits include the alternative-indie pop band Mynas which was active for nearly a decade, in which he was the song-writer, guitarist and co-vocalist. he also plays guitar for a number of singers including Lee England and Laura Conway.

Del's solo music takes inspiration from the folk traditional and features elements of blues, jazz and especially fingerstyle guitar playing. His music references Geoff Farina (Karate, Glorytellers), Nick Drake, John Martyn, Martin Carthy, Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Dave Brubeck, Jeff Buckley, Ennio Morricone, Jack Kerouac and Charles Bukowski.
One of the finest guitarists and lyricists in the locality, this collection is your opportunity to hear that laid bare.

This album was initially available in a limited edition run of DigiPack CDs. A limited number of these are now only available direct from Del or at gigs.
